Our Director David's Message...

As we approach the holidays, life can feel more stressful with the recent transitions and changes we have been through, the expectations we hold and the memories from the past that stay with us for the season.  Below are listed some suggestions for coping with the holiday season from the "Grief Recovery Group's Program".

Coping with The Holidays - Dealing with grief and loss.

  • Remember that you are not alone.
  • Try to reduce holiday stress: Don't overextend yourself; keep active, but not isolated.
  • Try to talk about your grief and feelings - it may make you feel better.
  • Be tolerant of your physical self.  You may feel fatigued and have a low energy level.  Keep your expectations of yourself low.
  • Try to identify friends and family members who understand your sense of loss and who will allow you to talk openly about your feelings.
  • Don't allow others to plan your holidays for you.  Focus on what you want to do.  Share your needs with family and friends.
  • Take inventory of your life - past, present and future.  Define some positives in your life.
  • Structure holiday time and anticipate activities.  Always know you can change plans if you need to.
  • Be reasonable about your expectations, change your routine; inform your family of your wishes and do what feels comfortable.
  • Express your faith if it's important to you.
  • Be patient with yourself.

One added suggestion is to volunteer, give your time for a cause such as the homeless, food banks, etc., and don't forget New Beginnings.  We always appreciate your much needed help and support!

Peace/Shalom,,

David
